Catharina van den Bosch (Karin) came to Shire in 2000 to assist in the Suhul Hospital, but soon was confronted with the need for abandoned and other vulnerable children requiring a place of safety.
The local government asked Karin to open a home for highly vulnerable children (HVC), they gave her 15 hectares for this purpose. Funds were given from outside donations to build a village and an office.
What started as a small home for vulnerable children developed into an organization by the name of Abraham’s Oasis in 2006 and has since grown into a much larger organization where currently 86 people find employment.
The director Catharina van den Bosch is ably assisted by the Head of Finance (also Deputy Director) and Administration, and three Project Managers who have teams to carry out the various activities as per the three-year proposal submitted to the Regional Government Bureaus. There is a good rapport with the local and regional governmental stakeholders.
Abraham’s Oasis is registered by the Tigray bureau of justice as a regional resident charity 53/2015 and governed by a Board that meets four times a year.
